Our History

In September 2008, the Golf Course was threatened by closure when the owner collapsed into bankruptcy.  The community responded overwhelmingly with financial and personal commitments to support the course if it remained open in an effort to protect the value and beauty of our town.

Seven local residents formed an LLC that negotiated a lease with the owner and became the Board of Directors to oversee the management and operation of the golf facility.

Your support is greatly appreciated and we welcome suggestions and ideas for the Golf Course.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SHADOW MOUNTAIN GOLF COURSE

*

Is the SCG,LLC in this to make money?

No.  We are all volunteering our time and resources.  We are making our financial contributions just like everyone else.  Our goal is to get the golf course to break even.  If there is a monthly surplus, we will bank it for the lean months or special projects.  No monies will be taken from the account except to pay taxes, insurance, vendors or employees.

*

 Who manages the golf course?

A new management team including members of the SCG,LLC Board of Directors

*

What are you doing that is different from the previous owners?

Everything.  Our goals include cutting costs, increasing revenues and running the golf course in a prudent manner.   We will promote the golf course through marketing and advertising, golf outings, member-guest activities, high school golf, golf leagues, etc.

*

What are some areas where personal help is needed?

Many people have offered personal assistance.  Those names are given to the appropriate committee or staff members who will contact you.

*

If we join the golf course today, what assurance do we have that it won’t close tomorrow?

Another of our goals is to bring stability to the course so people won’t have to worry about that.  Our initial lease was for six months. We demonstrated a successful

management result in that period.   Our current lease runs to April 6, 2010.  We have 4 one year rollover options from that date. Leasing the golf course and perhaps owning it one day is the  best means of protecting Sunsites.

*

Can the community buy the golf course?

In principle, yes, this would provide the best, long term protection of Sunsites.  We have the option of buying the Golf Course at any future date if we should choose to do so.  Our lease includes a right of first refusal which gives us the opportunity to purchase the course if the Owner identifies another buyer.

*

Will a successful golf course stimulate other business and recreational activity in Sunsites?

Yes, in fact, the Golf Course is Sunsites' main economic

engine.  Historically, Sunsites exists because of the Golf

Course and this continues to be the case.  All our property

values are absolutely dependant on a healthy Golf Course.
